Day 31

I took this shot on manual with my on camera flash and a light scoop. I've been having THE hardest time lately because I can't seem to get enough natural light in the house, and it's way too cold to be outside. . .so today I decided to not be afraid of the flash. I really don't like 'flashy' looking pictures and usually avoid it at all costs. However I'm not getting the pictures/shots I want because I simply don't have enough light. A good flash picture beats a bad natural light one so I'm going to stop dreading it and embrace it- while I have no choice. Hopefully I can quickly figure out the adjustments and use it when I need it, instead of being afraid. The ISO was still way high from trying to take a pic without the flash, but I still think it's progress :)

Jackson has grown quite the pot belly lately. Sometimes I think it's size rivals my own pregnant belly. (And if you want to read more about my pregnant belly- go here. )

Tips, suggestions and even critiques always welcome!

I feel your pain...I hate taking pictures inside my house.

Cute shot...although I think there should be some more light so you can see his cute face better

What about turning on some light and changing your white balance? My house is dark too but I have really been working on working with my white balance. It has helped a lot. If I have a lamp on, I just change my settings to incandescent. Hope that helps.

I have sometimes moved lamps around in my house, or even brought out a small reading light to add light. Ironically, it's never occurred to me to use my reflector indoors. Hmmm. Even a piece of white foam core would work to reflect some light onto your subject.

Cute shot! White foam core is cheap and works really well if you can reflect it from a window.

If you can gets lots of lights around, try using a grey card and custom setting your white balance then you wont get weird colours from the lights :)

I also read a thing on DPS about using a playing card or piece of tape on your onboard flash to stop the flashy look. might be something to read about :)

LOL Sorry about the novel just trying to help!

I'm all about turning a crazy amount of lights on and then trying to do a custom white balance. Winter is no fun, I'm sooooo craving Spring. :)

Hallelujah! I felt like such a failure because I couldn't get a decent picture without a flash. Glad I'm not the only one. I don't know anything about white balance. :)

I have a weird obsession about not using flash. You've inspired me to use it MAYBE once in a while in order to get a decent shot. ;-D
